The carpenter bees have been flying around over the past couple of days, males crisscrossing the yard just a couple of feet off the ground. Sitting in the back yard just now I spotted this couple in flagrante delicto, perched on a clematis twig left from recent pruning. I couldn’t get my phone out fast enough to capture the action but did get this post coital shot of him hovering near her until she flew away. He had a white spot on his face; her face was black and glistening. I wasn’t able to track her after she left but have seen signs of carpenter bees (holes) in our neighbors’ fence.
